Scale
Pasta
- 12 ounces fettuccine pasta
Shrimp and Cooking
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
Sauce
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 ½ cups heavy cream
- 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
Garnish
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Cook Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the fettuccine according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Sauté Shrimp: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp and cook for 1 to 2 minutes per side, until the shrimp turn pink and opaque. Remove shrimp from skillet and set aside.
- Prepare Alfredo Sauce: Reduce heat to medium and add butter to the same skillet. Once melted, add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Simmer Cream: Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a simmer. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce is slightly thickened.
- Add Cheese and Seasonings: Stir in freshly grated Parmesan cheese, salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes if using. Let the sauce simmer for another 2 to 3 minutes until smooth and creamy.
- Combine Pasta and Shrimp: Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet, then add the drained fettuccine. Toss everything together until well coated with the sauce.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley if desired and serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- You can use half-and-half instead of heavy cream for a lighter version.
- Add a squeeze of lemon juice to the sauce to brighten the flavors.
- Chicken can be substituted for shrimp if preferred.
- Use freshly grated Parmesan cheese for the best melting and creamy sauce texture.
